Knutsford Fact File
The name Knutsford is most likely a corruption of Canute's Ford (Cunetesford, as in William the Conqueror's Domesday Book of 1086).
Knutsford is renowned for its restaurants and pubs, coffee shops, boutiques, antique shops and art galleries.
The fictional town of Cranford in the novel of the same name is modelled on Knutsford in Cheshire where the author, Elizabeth Gaskell, lived for some time with her Aunt.
Elizabeth Gaskell is buried in the churchyard of Brook Street Unitarian Chapel.
Knutsford is adjacent to Tatton Park, with its famous Japanese gardens.
