Thornton Hough is Merseyside village on the Wirral Peninsula, but historically formed part of Cheshire.
The village is documented in the Domesday Book as 'Torintone'. The name of the village 'Thornton Hough' was established during the reign of Edward II, when the daughter of local landowner, Roger de Thorneton, married Richard de Hoghe.
The village was developed in 1866 when Joseph Hirst purchased farmland, building a church, a school and Wilshaw Terrace, with further development taking place by William Leverhulm.
